Camesha Cam Thompson, BSS, BSN, RN, ACRN is currently enrolled in a master’s program at Walden University for Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner with a focus on Substance Abuse. She graduated from Bowie State University with a Bachelor of Science in Sociology and a Bachelor of Science in Nursing in 2015. Her nursing tenure began in the hospital setting as a perioperative nurse after completing a nurse residency program under the American Association of Colleges of Nursing (AACN). She credits this experience for solidifying her skills in Evidence Based Practice, statistical analysis, and clinical knowledge. However, as fascinating as the technical and fast-paced world of surgery was for her, she longed for more connection to patients on a holistic level. Ms. Thompson then branched into Community Health to discover it was the perfect blend of nursing, science, education, and case management; all the things she deems the foundation for effective, progressive healthcare. She currently serves as Associate Population Health Director at CCI Health Services where she was previously the Lead Infectious Disease Registered Nurse Care Coordinator. A strong advocate for patient rights with a commitment to social justice in health care delivery, she empowers her patients to take hold of the trajectory of their health by being the key strategist in their own well-being. Her professional interests focus on integrative approaches to care management on a county and state level and participating in local community outreach events to provide immersive health education and HIV testing to the public.
Her current projects include didactic clinical with aspiring nursing students and conducting research studies that highlight the disparities of health equity and access for minorities.
