Olivia Pena, RN, is a first year Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner (PMHNP) student at Western Governors School of Nursing. Ms. Pena has extensive clinical experience in Medsurg and hospice. While working the Medsurg floors in the Metropolitan area of San Antonio Texas, Ms. Pena has taken a vast interest in psych nursing. She has encountered many patients who are homeless, suffering from drug abuse, and mental health disorders while working in the metro area. Prior to her enrollment at Western Governor s University, she has served the hospice patients in the Hispanic community. With her bilingual background, Ms. Pena has been able to comfort and connect with her patients as well as their families while they are transitioning to the end of life. She graduated from Texas A&M International University of Laredo, Texas with a bachelor’s degree in nursing science. She was active in the Student Nurses Association where she volunteered her time and hours at the Bethany House shelter in the downtown area of Laredo. Ms. Pena has also spent two weeks at the San Antonio State Hospital for psychiatric patients where she gained first-hand experience and knowledge into the specialty. Ms. Pena hopes that with her experience, education, and compassion she will be able to help the underserved and underprivileged community in her area. She hopes to make a difference and open the minds of the Hispanic community to prioritize their mental health and seek help when necessary.
Ms. Pena is a single mother of three active boys.
