Wonkyung Chang

RN, BSN , Doctoral (Current)

Wonkyung Chang, RN, BSN, is a third-year doctoral student in the MS-PhD Combined program (Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner specialty) at the University of Rochester. She expects to finish her Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner program in 2024 during her PhD study.

Based on her clinical experiences, she is interested in unhealthy alcohol use among minority populations. Ms. Chang is constantly learning the root causes of mental health disparity within society and how to ensure people with diverse backgrounds are welcomed in the community. After her study at the University of Rochester, she hopes to advance her research on mental health outcomes, especially substance use disorders among marginalized people, and provide psychiatric services to those in need.

Before moving to the U.S., Ms. Chang worked as a psychiatric nurse in an inpatient alcohol treatment center in South Korea. She continues practicing as a registered nurse at Hillside Children’s Center, where she cares for youth with diverse backgrounds who have experienced significant trauma. She enjoys working as a psychiatric nurse and helping fellow Asian immigrants.

Ms. Chang is an active member of the American Psychiatric Nurses Association and Asian American Pacific Islander Nurses Association.
